Phase 2

Overview of sport court, dog park and community garden at the GND RECComplete

Focusing on community health

Phase Two will improve the health and wellness of the community in a variety of ways.

Key Facilities:
  • Dog Park
  • Community Garden
  • Sport Court

First, Phase Two features a Dog Park. The Gary-New Duluth community has always been pet friendly, so we didn’t want to leave important members of our family out of the GND REC. The K9 Haas Dog Park has its own parking area and a fenced interior for our four-legged friends to run free. Inside the fenced interior there are several benches as well as water service for your dog to get a drink during those hot summer days. Playing with your dog is not only good exercise for your dog, but good exercise for you too! Additionally, both K9 and owner will get the added benefit of socializing with others in the community.

The CN Community Gardens at the GND REC feature 14 raised beds for community members to grow fresh organic produce.  The garden is fenced perimeter to ensure critters are kept out. The community is classified as a food desert so the gardens help our citizens grow their own vegetables.

Lastly, Phase Two includes a multi-use Sport Court for all community members to use! The Sport Court will allow everyone from youth to adults play a variety of sports. With all of these features coming to the Gary-New Duluth community, it is hard not to get excited! With such a focus on health, the GND community is sure to be one of the healthiest communities around!

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

The GND Community Center and Recreation Area is dedicated to providing a place to be used by members of the community for social, cultural, learning and recreational purposes.

The community is in a period of transition with many new people moving to the community. The GND REC provides the catalyst for bringing the community together, benefiting young people and seniors alike while instilling an overall sense of pride throughout the community.

We can’t get this project completed without your help!
